Minimal Regatta

Well, we made it to Key West in time to see the 19th Annual Schooner Wharf Bar Minimal Regatta held this weekend.  Defiantly a must see if you are ever in the neighborhood during Memorial Day.

Here is a list of the rules and some pictures of the entries.

Minimal Regatta Construction Rules
1. One sheet of 4' x 8' x 1/4" plywood
2. Two 2" x 4" x 8'
3. One pound of fasteners
4. One roll of 2" x 60 yard duct tape
5. No caulking or adhesives - Epoxy paint is permitted
6. Painting of boats is optional

Boats are judged on creativity of design, paint, and of course speed. They also give awards for sportsmanship and the quickest sinker. Basically, everyone wins.

There were about 32 or 33 entries, they were the most imaginative boats and crew we’ve ever seen so we got quite a laugh. I’m sure you can imagine the results as the colorful citizens of Key West paddle their homemade “boat” around the race coarse.  About a third of the boats sunk on the starting line. You should watch the videos on YouTube our pictures don’t show enough.

Joel & Dakota Videos

The 4 videos below are of Joel & Dakota. We heard them playing in a courtyard in Tarpon Springs, FL. Dakota has been cast in a movie playing the harmonica. However, we do not know the name of the movie, because they are not allowed to say yet.

~ Joel & Dakota, a father son duo, entertain audiences with music that makes fans want more old & new rythms done the “Joel & Dakota” way, with harmonica, conga, acoustic guitar & song. They demonstrate a “new breed” of music with a flair of country, rock, 50’s, 60’s, alternative & island sound. Working together, they have created entertainment not duplicated in the area. Joel has been entertaining over 36 years, traveling the U.S. & performing on cruise lines, with bands such as Kentucky Blend, Marivin & The Mixed Vegetables, Johnny Jay, solo & now duo. Dakota’s interest in music began several years ago. He has performed with Lee Brice, Joe Nichols, Road Hammers, Tuscan Road, Brian Stace, Lois Greco, Billy (formerly) of Marshall Tucker Band, & Dave Muse (formerly) of Firefall. This team has performed throughout the U.S. They were videoed in Tarpon Springs, FL by Oktogonn TV to promote FL tourism in Germany; performed on WWHP Radio, Farmer City, IL streamed throughout the U.S. & Europe; WHDG Radio, Rhinelander, WI; Kiwanis Mardi Gras, St. Pete, FL; & Palm Harbor Citrus Festival, FL. They will again perform at the Hodag Festival in Rhinelander, WI with their band. The family lives in Tomahawk, WI in summers & on a sailboat in FL in winters. Dakota is home schooled, giving opportunity for growth with hands on education through exploration, travel & experience. It may be skiing & snow boarding one day, surfing or snorkling the next.

This duo expresses a valuable quality in music & life…

remember: who you are, where you are from, what you are about & where you want to go, is important for unity & success.
